At a glance
- Every day Foliograph automatically writes a backup into its data folder and keeps the newest 14 by default.
- A backup is a ZIP file with your journal data. Passwords and API keys are not included.
- When restoring, Foliograph recognizes trades that already exist and skips them.
What a backup contains
Trades, executions, option legs, comments, screenshots and images, strategies, cash flows, the account value history, the AI connections (without key) and your preferences, since version 0.3.21 also the column selection of the tables.
Passwords, API keys and the Flex token are not included. After a restore you enter them once again. Market data is not included either, Foliograph loads it again on the next refresh.
Automatic backups
Once a day Foliograph writes a backup into the backups folder inside its data folder, in the background. This only happens when you have trades and the newest backup is older than 20 hours.
Settings > Data & Backup lists the backups with date, size, content (trades, executions, comments, attachments, strategies) and the app version that wrote them.
For each backup you can:
- Download it to keep it somewhere else,
- Lock it so it is never deleted automatically,
- Delete it.
Number of backups to keep sets how many automatic backups stay (default 14). Locked backups do not count toward it. Lock a backup before a large import, for example, so you have a known state to return to.
Create backup now writes one right away. The Source column shows whether a backup came from the daily job or from you.
Manual backup
Under Settings > Data & Backup > Backup, Download Backup saves a backup directly to your downloads folder.
The backups in the data folder live on the same computer as Foliograph. If the disk fails, they are gone too. Copy a backup somewhere else from time to time, for example to a USB stick or your cloud storage.
Restoring
- Open Settings > Data & Backup.
- Under Import, pick the ZIP file and start the import.
- Then enter passwords, API keys and the Flex token again (Settings > Connections and Settings > AI).
Foliograph recognizes trades that already exist and skips them. Importing the same state twice therefore creates no duplicates. An import never overwrites existing data.
Moving to a new computer
- On the old computer: Create backup now and download the backup.
- Install Foliograph on the new computer and create an account.
- Import the backup as described above.
- Enter the TWS connection, Flex token and API keys again.
The license is bound to the installation. The new installation therefore needs a new license key. Write to info@foliograph.ch and include the Instance ID shown on the new computer under Settings > General > License.
Danger zone
Under Danger Zone you can delete all market data (Foliograph loads it again on the next refresh) or all journal data. Deleting the journal data cannot be undone. Both actions require typing DELETE to confirm. Download a backup first.
